The School of English and Drama invites you to our annual Lisa Jardine lecture for 2018:

‘Alternative Fin de Siècle Poetries: Kipling, Hardy, Field, Meynell’

Register here

Abstract: ‘How many Fin de Siècle poetries were there? We tend to think of poetry at the end of the nineteenth-century through the aesthetic movement, Wilde, and the coteries formed by the poets Yeats called ’the tragic generation’. However, many poets produced volumes at the end of the century with their own distinctive aesthetics and politics. In this homage to Lisa Jardine I will speak of four of these,  giving them a context in Darwin’s late work rather than in aesthetic philosophy.’
