ABSTRACT. Neil Bartlett was born in 1958. He has been having gay sex since 1973, making gay performance since 1982, and publishing gay writing since 1988. In this lecture, Bartlett offers a few personal and professional reflections on the two mutually interdependent categories that have dominated and continue to dominate gay male lives and culture in the several decades which he has been lucky enough to have survived, and asks: what makes a Good Homosexual, and what makes a Bad one, and why does it matter?
